2. Increasing Taxes on the Rich
The 2016 Presidential election will not be any different from the ones that preceded it in terms of tax issues. Both Bernie Sander and Hillary Clinton see current tax codes in need of reform, and the primary focus of any battles in the upcoming presidency. The best way to overcome these tax burdens: simply promise the American people that the rich will have to pay more. Although promising to ease the burden of the middle class will come at the expense of taxing the rich, many of the richest 100,000 people in the country already have enjoyed some of the biggest tax breaks in recent years. This type of rhetoric, however, is getting old, and many undecided voters are no longer putting much credence on these promises because they simply never get passed when they finally make it to the desk of those who are position to approve the bills.
3. Supporting Sanctuary Cities
When local law enforcement agencies begin acting like the immigration police, people are going to stop reporting these crimes to the authorities. When people start hiding from the police, it becomes a threat to the safety of all Americans. Hillary Clinton supports the idea of sanctuary cities, and she states the failure of the government in the immigration area needs to be fixed now. She strongly supports the idea that immigration reform is the path to legal citizenship, and wants protect those who want to follow proper protocol but have to hide in order to do so. Bernie Sanders is completely against the idea of the government raiding houses and deporting families who have desperately tried to escape the violence in Central America by coming to America. Sanders is for protecting those children who are facing the violence and dangers of deportation. Clinton and Sanders both agree that these immigrants should not be criminalized, and that they should never be subjected to indefinite detainment or solitary confinement. They feel that the United States must uphold its international responsibilities by protecting families seeking refuge. Rather than rounding up the immigrants like Donald Trump proposes, the Democrats would prefer providing sanctuary first.
